about

Dedicated to a friend of mine who was incredibly talented but who always let their emotions get the better of them, they would self-sabotage or push those who loved them away. At the time I looked up to this particular person and recognised the potential that they had, so it was hard to watch. I hadn’t planned on putting this song on the record, but the band convinced me it would be a good way for the record to finish, just a voice and a guitar.

lyrics

Sometimes you can’t drive all the way
The road is closed open on another day
But you always seem to find the time to wait

Your ships going down, so you sink it with a drink
What the hell are you trying to find all the way down there?
Don’t you know the bottom of the barrel aint going nowhere?

I’ve seen potential from that mountainous gaze that you reflect from
It seems eventual, why do you flick the switch and turn the hate on?
Where do you keep the switch that turns your hate on?

I heard that you left town, rode the train until it stopped
Hope the clean air out there aint all that you got
Don’t romanticize your demise while living under a rock

You’re with good folk now, so try to get some sleep
Be like the wind that blows amongst the reeds
And I wish you all the best as you take a deep breath and sink into the deep

I’ve seen potential from that mountainous gaze that you reflect from
It seems eventual, why do you flick the switch and turn the hate on
Where do you keep the switch that turns your hate on?
Can we sparky in here to switch the main off?
