Originally spurring from a confronting dream I had which sent me into an unhealthy spiral of ‘what if’s?’ I stumbled across this progression while messing around with stacking piano chords on top of each other to give them unique colours, not having any formal music training, it was one of those ‘ah-ha!’ moments where I'd unlocked something new on the piano. Once I had the verse feel down, I wrote a sort of ‘anti-chorus’ to juxtapose the rhythm and dynamic of the verse.

When we originally demoed this track my friend Harmony Byrne happened to stop by to visit the house and our engineer spontaneously asked her to jump in on the session, having her sing in unison with me really amped up the melody as it was an unusual register for me to sing in. I think my Radiohead obsession definitely came out in the production of this track.

As I awoke, I forgot that I cut my hair
And the dream that shook me, still lingered in the air
Got a little too real, for a minute there
I dreamt I paced the grass beyond the weathered pale

You speak to close to me ain’t no rabbit in my hat
You chew upon the straw that breaks the camel’s back
Sat across the table, aloft the hanging plants
That where I rest my eyes when I can’t seem to relax

At least not for now

You seem to watch your tongue, whenever I’m around
But I can hear the silent hum that draws the rats from town
Trained to sit beside you, but not upon your cloud
Only if they have a gift in which you can devour
